Meet Lindungi Hutan

A crowdfunding organisation that focuses specifically on tree planting across Indonesia, to mitigate the effects of climate change. The funds donated to this cause will directly fund a mangrove-planting project between Kasi and Lindungi Hutan in South Sulawesi.

Mangroves are majorly important. These distinctive and treasured trees help slow down the movement of water by trapping sediment and stabilising coastlines to reduce the impacts of storm waves and flooding (growing threats as the climate changes). Mangroves also help reduce global warming thanks to their super powers: absorption and storage. The rich and waterlogged soil Mangroves grow in, absorb and store a great deal of carbon.

However, many mangrove forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. More than 35% of the world's mangroves are already gone.

Why is this Cause Important?

2019 was the hottest year on record.
11% of global greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans are due to deforestation.
Tropical forests are incredibly effective at storing carbon, providing at least 30% of the mitigation needed to prevent the worst climate change scenarios.
